In 1999, Tom Lichtenheld’s nephew asked him to draw a picture of a pirate. Tom engaged his philosophy of “anything worth doing is worth over-doing,” and responded with 24 pages of made-up nonsense and silly pictures of pirates. It became his first children’s book, Everything I Know About Pirates and was featured in Newsweek as one of the best children’s books of 2000.
Tom’s other picture books include Everything I Know About Monsters, Everything I Know About Cars, What’s With This Room?, What Are You So Grumpy About?, Bridget’s Beret, and Cloudette.
Tom collaborated with author Amy Krouse Rosenthal to create The OK Book, Yes Day and It’s Not Fair!, and Duck!Rabbit!, a New York Times Bestseller. He has also collaborated with Chris Barton on the bestselling Shark vs. Train and with Sherri Rinker on the bestselling Goodnight, Goodnight, Contruction Site. His newest book, E-mergency, is schedule for release this fall.
Tom lives in Geneva, Illinois. In his spare time he likes to get other peoples’ kids all wound up then send them home to their parents.
