  • Lois Ehlert | Author/Illustrator

    Lois Ehlert has created numerous inventive, celebrated, and bestselling picture books, including Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Lots of Spots, Boo to You!, Leaf Man, Waiting for Wings, Planting a Rainbow, and Growing Vegetable Soup.  Her nature-inspired and colorful books are loved by young children, parents, and educators alike for their creative art and design and wonderful wordplay.

    Lois Ehlert lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

  • Kathi Appelt | Author

    Kathi Appelt, at the age of seven, stumbled and fell into an alligator pit in San Antonio, Texas, a place where there should be no alligators or alligator pits. Fortunately she was a lot bigger than the alligator, who was more scared of her than she was of it!

    She is a member of the faculty at Vermont College's Master of Fine Arts program and occasionally teaches creative writing at Texas A&M University. She has two grown children, and lives in Texas with her husband and four cats. Her debut novel, The Underneath, was a National Book Award finalist and a Newbery Honor book. School Library Journal gave Appelt's latest book, Keeper, a Starred Review, calling it a "deeply satisfying tale."

  • Avi | Author

    Avi is the author of more than seventy books including Crispin: The Cross of Lead, a Newbery Medal winner, and Crispin: At the Edge of the World. His other acclaimed titles include The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and Nothing But the Truth, both Newbery Honor Books.

    His books for young readers include the Poppy series, set in Dimwood Forest, which follows the adventures of Poppy the mouse and her animal friends.  Avi's books span a wide range of genres and include historical fiction, adventure, fantasy, and mystery.

    Avi received degrees in theatre and history from the University of Wisconsin.  He lives with his family in Colorado.

  • Calef Brown | Author/Illustrator

    Calef Brown began his career at an early age as a tour guide, when he discovered the simple joy of pointing things out.  He is also an artist, writer, and frequently a blue elephant.  He is the New York Times #1 bestselling author and illustrator of Flamingos on the Roof: Poems and Paintings and Dutch Sneakers and Fleakeepers. Calef Brown is one of the celebrated children's book creators who have contributed to the online serial, The Exquisite Corpse Adventure.

    Calef Brown's illustrations have appeared in many magazines and newspapers, and his paintings have been exhibited in N.Y., L.A., S.F., and other places without fancy initials, like Osaka and Rome.

    He lives in Maine.

  • David McLimans | Author/Illustrator

    David McLimans was born and raised in Green Bay, where he was encouraged to pursue art by his high school art teacher.  He attended the University of Minnesota and earned his MFA from Boston University. 

    McLimans entered the field of children's books later in his career, publishing his first picture book, Gone Wild: An Endangered Animal Alphabet, to great critical acclaim.  It was named as one of the Best Illustrated Children's Books of 2006 by the New York Times and it received a Caldecott Honor in 2007. He published a second picture book, Gone Fishing: Ocean Life by the Numbers, in 2008. 

    He lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

  • Ilsa J. Bick | Author

    Ilsa J. Bick is a child psychiatrist and author of short stories, e-books, and novels.  Her young adult paranormal novel, Draw the Dark, was a semifinalist for the 2009 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (under the title Stalag Winter).  

    Ilsa J. Bick lives with her family and other furry creatures in rural Wisconsin, across the street from the local Hebrew cemetery. One thing she loves about the neighbors:  They're very quiet and come around for sugar only once in a blue moon.

  • James Dashner | Author

    James Dashner is the author of "The 13th Reality" series (The Journal of Curious Letters, The Hunt for Dark Infinity, The Blade of Shattered Hope) and The Maze Runner.  The second book in the planned Maze Runner science fiction trilogy for young adults, The Scorch Trials, is due out in October.

    James Dashner was born and raised in Georgia.  He now lives in the Rocky Mountains with his family.

  • Renee Graef | Author/Illustrator

    Renée Graef is the illustrator of many books for children, including B is for Badger:  A Wisconsin Alphabet, Paul Bunyan's Sweetheart, The Nutcracker, and While You Were Away.  She is the illustrator of the Kirsten (American Girl) books (Meet Kirsten, Kirsten Saves the Day, Kirsten Snowbound! and more) and the My First Little House series, an adaptation of the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder stories for young readers.

    Graef attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she now lives in Milwaukee with her family.

  • Barbara Joosse | Author

    Barbara Joosse has published over 36 picture books, including Mama, Do You Love Me?, Hot City, Nugget and Darling, ROAWR!, and Sleepover at Gramma's House.  She is also the author of the Wild Willie mystery series for middle readers.  Her books have received numerous awards, including the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators.

    Barbara Joosse lives with her husband in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

  • Keiko Kasza | Author/Illustrator

    Keiko Kasza's picture books have been called "modern day fables for children" by the International Reading Association. Her books include A Mother for Choco, Ready for Anything!, My Lucky Day, and The Wolf's Chicken Stew.  Keiko Kasza is included in the Cooperative Center for Children's Books' list of "Ten Picture Book Authors Every Childcare Provider Should Know."

    Keiko Kasza was born on a small Japanese island in the Inland Sea of Japan. She now lives in Indiana with her husband and two sons.

  • JoAnn Early Macken | Author

    JoAnn Early Macken is a poet and author of picture books, nonfiction books, and novels for children and young adults.   Her books include Waiting Out the Storm, Flip, Float, Fly: Seeds on the Move, and Gary Paulson, a biography of the popular author of survival and adventure stories. Macken's poems have been published in Cricket, Ladybug, and the anthology Stories from Where We Live: The Great Lakes.

  • Matthew McElligott | Author/Illustrator

    Matthew McElligott’s books for children include The Lion's Share, Even Monsters Need Haircuts, and Backbeard: Pirate for Hire.  When he is not busy writing and illustrating children’s books, he teaches at the Sage College of Albany in Albany, NY.  

    Matthew McElligott lives in New York with his wife, his son, and several animals, including two horses, about a dozen chickens, a rabbit, some cats, some fish, and a dog.

  • Gerald Morris | Author

    Gerald Morris is the author of the young adult Arthurian adventure series “The Squire’s Tales”. His books include The Lioness and Her Knight;  The Adventures of Sir Lancelot; and, The Squire, His Knight and His Lady, which is on the American Library Association’s Best Books for Young Adults list.  Morris is also the author of “The Knights’ Tales” series for younger readers.  

    Gerald Morris grew up in Singapore, where his parents were Baptist missionaries.  He is a former professor of religion and holds doctorates in Greek and Hebrew.  In addition to writing novels for children and young adults, he is a part-time minister.

    Lisa Moser is a former 5th grade teacher whose books include The Monster in the Backpack, Squirrel’s World and Kisses on the Wind. Her latest book, Perfect Soup, will be published this fall.

  • Barbara Techel | Author

    Barbara Techel is the author of Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dog and Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Therapy Dog Visits Libby’s House. Frankie, Barbara Techel’s miniature dachshund, became paralyzed by a back injury in 2006.  Barbara Techel and Frankie, who is fitted with a dog cart to keep her mobile, are regular visitors to a local hospital, senior assisted facility, and hospice.
