Sheboygan Children’s and Teen’s Book Fest to Feature Juana Medina, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, and Mike Lowery

SHEBOYGAN (April 19, 2017) — Sheboygan County Reads!, the non-profit organization which promotes the love of books and reading among local youngsters, has revealed three more presenters for the 2017 Sheboygan Children’s and Teen’s Book Festival. The book festival, set to take place October 13-15, will include Juana Medina, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, and Mike Lowery.

Medina, author-illustrator of Juana & Lucas, is the 2017 winner of the Pura Belpré Author Award, honoring Latino authors whose work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children’s books. Juana & Lucas is an early chapter book inspired by her childhood. She is also the illustrator of Smick! by Doreen Cronin. She was born in Bogota, Colombia and teaches at George Washington University.

Dotlich’s children’s poetry and picture books have been featured on Reading Rainbow and the PBS children’s show Between the Lions. She has co-authored with Jane Yolen on Grumbles From The Forest; Fairy Tale Voices with a Twist and received an SCBWI Golden Kite Honor for Bella and Bean. She is also the author of What Can A Crane Pick Up? and All Aboard!, both illustrated by fellow festival presenter Mike Lowery.

Illustrator of the popular Gingerbread Man series with Laura Murray, Lowery’s art appears in everything from greeting cards to bestselling activity calendars. His Doodle Adventures series encourages readers to write and draw in the books, making themselves part of the adventure. The third book in the series, Doodle Adventures: The Rise of the Rusty Robo-Cat!, will be published in the summer of 2017.

Juana Medina, Rebecca Kai Dotlich and Mike Lowery will appear along with the previously announced Kevin Henkes, Laura Dronzek, Eugene Yelchin, Barney Saltzberg, and Sara Pennypacker.
