Sheboygan Children’s and Teen Book Festival Slated for October 2016
SHEBOYGAN CHILDREN'S AND TEEN BOOK FESTIVAL SLATED FOR OCTOBER 2016
Upcoming book festivals will feature authors, illustrators, activities, presentations, and more
SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN - The Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival and the Sheboygan Teen Book Festival will be held October 7 - 9, 2016, with a theme of “Dare To Discover”.
The Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival has been held each October since 2010, and 2016 marks the very first year of the Sheboygan Teen Book Festival. Together, the festivals aim to bring thousands of teens and kids together with leading authors and illustrators to inspire the literary and visual arts. The festival hosts its events at venues including the Mead Public Library, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, the Stefanie H. Weill Center, and Bookworm Gardens.
The three-day event will also feature activities, presentations, book character meet-and-greets, book sales, autographs, art-making, graphic illustration workshops, trivia, and more. “The Daring Art of Books for Children and Teens: Four Illustrators in Conversation with Mitch Teich” will give guests a perspective into the world of book illustration.
The Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival will feature authors including Jill Esbaum, David Fulk, Jennifer Swanson, and Rachel Vail; author and illustrators Calef Brown, Joe Cepeda, Matthew Cordell, Thyra Heder, Victoria Jamieson, Duncan Tonatiuh, and David Wiesner; and singer/songwriter Emily Arrow. Children’s activities will include handouts of festival trading cards, pictures with favorite book characters, a bedtime concert with Emily Arrow, a journaling workshop, a viewing of the movie Paddington, and more.
The Sheboygan Teen Book Festival’s lineup will include authors Silvia Acevedo, Valerie Biel, David Fulk, Melissa Gorzelanczyk, and Rachel Vail; author/illustrators Joe Cepeda and Victoria Jamieson; and author and poet Keith “Blu” Warfield. Teens will have the chance to enjoy meeting authors and illustrators, participate in a Teen Lit Trivia contest with authors, purchase books, get autographs, make art, and more.
Both the Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival and Sheboygan Teen Book Festival will be free to enter and open to the public. Both festivals will have the theme “Dare To Discover” and aim to highlight curiosity, fantasy, and exploration in literature for children and teens alike.
This year’s Sheboygan Teen Book Festival will mark the event’s debut, and organizers believe that setting aside a book festival exclusively for teens will encourage more teens to engage. The event even has a teen advisory board in place that helped organize the Sheboygan Teen Book Festival. This gave teens a vital role in developing the festival.
Organizers of both festivals would like to thank their volunteers and sponsors for their support. More information, including schedules for both book festivals, can be found at SheboyganChildrensBookFestival.org and SheboyganTeenBookFestival.org.
